Eaton Crouse-Hinds series MTL 910x FISCO power supply systems

Crouse-Hinds series MTL 910x FISCO power supply systems provide an

intrinsically safe field network for Foundation™ fieldbus systems in

hazardous areas. Variants are available for integration into proprietary

fieldbus control systems. The output of the power supply modules

complies with the Fieldbus Intrinsically Safe Concept (FISCO) model,

in accordance with IEC standard 60079-27.

The key advantages of FISCO over earlier ‘Entity’ model installations

to FF-816 are higher available field current and reduced safety

documentation, while retaining the ability to conduct maintenance

while energized and without “gas clearance”.

The 910x systems build on MTL 912x-IS range of power supplies,

which have become established as the industry standard solution for

FISCO networks. The 910x systems now achieve higher levels of overall

system availability by providing redundancy of the power modules.

Eaton MTL fieldbus terminators

Fieldbus standards require buses to be terminated at both ends to prevent

signal reflections. In many applications, one terminator is built into the

power conditioner, which is usually located near the control system.

The second terminator is either integrated into the Megablock or fieldbus

barrier wiring component, or added in the form of a separate DIN-rail

mounted unit.

The Crouse-Hinds series MTL range of fieldbus terminators are ideally suited

to provide the terminator that is normally installed in a junction box in the

field (along with a Megablock for interconnecting devices).

A large “T” is placed on all terminator labels for easy identification of the

Terminator location.

Design features

• Terminators are clearly marked with a large ‘T’ making them easy to identify in the field

• Provides some differential and common-mode (cable shield) over voltage protection

• The ground connection on the filedbus terminators are used to shunt any surge currents

that may get on the cable shield to a local ground in the junction box.

Although the normal practice is to ground the cable shield in the control room, this additional

ground connection will not cause ground loops.

• In the event of an overvoltage on the cable shield, a gas discharge tube fires and shunts

this unwanted current to ground

Eaton MTL fieldbus power hub

The Crouse-Hinds series MTL F11 is the next generation of the

popular power hub. Ideal for fieldbus device or system

demonstrations, bench-top calibrations and test setups.

The power hub is a mini fieldbus segment in a box – just add

devices.

A typical use for the power hub is to configure, precommission,

test or calibrate Fieldbus devices.

Design features

• Built-in fieldbus power conditioning

• 5 fieldbus device ports

• 30mA current per device

• Up to 315mA total current

• Auxiliary port for expansion

• Complete with AC power supply

• Battery-pack option 5 fieldbus device ports

Standard materials

• Case: Lexan polycarbonate

Crouse-Hinds series MTL F30 Ex ic Adaptor

Crouse-Hinds series MTL F30 Ex ic Adaptor is an accessory to our

F300 range of Megablock wiring hubs. The F30 provides intrinsically

safe Ex ic spur connections for fieldbus networks in Zone 2 hazardous

areas. One F30 is used with each Megablock, to limit the voltage at

the spurs to Ex ic levels. When connected to suitably certified fieldbus

instruments, the spurs may be live-worked in accordance with normal

intrinsic safety procedures. The F30 is completely transparent to all

fieldbus communications.

The F30 is compatible with F304. F308 and F312 Megablock types,

typically providing up to 12 Ex ic spurs per fieldbus segment.

Up to two F30s and their associated Megablocks may be connected

to a single segment, to allow the fieldbus trunk to be extended

between junction boxes in the field.

Ex ic replaces the earlier Ex nL technique for energy-limited fieldbus

networks, and brings the technique into line with formal intrinsic safety

procedures.
