TEWS TPMC378 is a conduction cooled single-width 32 bit PMC module

Application Information

The TPMC378 is a conduction cooled single-width 32 bit

PMC module offering 8 channels of high performance

RS422 asynchronous serial interface with P14 I/O. Each

of the eight channels is isolated from the system and

against each other by isolated transceivers with integrated

DC/DC converters.

Each RS422 channel supports a four wire interface (RX+,

RX-, TX+, TX-) plus ground (GND). Two channels

additionally support flow control with RTS+/- and CTS+/-.

Each channel has 64 byte transmit and receive FIFOs to

significantly reduce the overhead required to provide data

to and get data from the transmitters and receivers. The

FIFO trigger levels are programmable and the baud rate is

individually programmable up to 5.5296 Mbps for RS422

channels. The UART offers readable FIFO levels.

All channels generate interrupts on PCI interrupt INTA. For

fast interrupt source detection the UART provides a

special Global Interrupt Source Register.

All serial channels use ESD protected transceivers. ESD

protection is up to ±15KV.

The TPMC378 can operate with 3.3V and 5.0V PCI I/O

signaling voltage.

Software Support (TDRV002-SW-xx) for different

operating systems is available.

With the DVC7K digital valve controller’s enhanced memory

Valve Diagnostics

With the DVC7K digital valve controller’s enhanced memory,

it is able to provide a comprehensive library of valve

diagnostic alerts, as shown in Figure 3. These diagnostics

and recommended actions are easily accessed with an

Emerson handheld communicator or from the LUI. When

installed as part of a HART communicating system, the

DVC7K delivers prompt notification of current or potential

equipment issues directly to the asset management system

and supports NAMUR NE107 alert categorization.

Alerts assist in identification and notification of the

following situations:

• Stroke open and/or stroke close degradation

•Valve travel deviation identifies stuck valves that don’t

make full travel

• Cycle count / Travel Accumulator

• Various instrument mechanical and electrical issues

Leverage an Emerson handheld communicator to view the

instrument Event Log which stores alerts in memory on

board the DVC7K, view graphical data, and quickly identify

the stroke open and stroke close times.

of the DVC7K provides valve performance and health

evaluation without shutting down the process or pulling

the valve assembly from the line.

• Improved Maintenance Decisions — Digital

communication provides easy access to the condition

of the valve. Sound decisions can be made by analysis

of valve information through any HART communicating

asset management software

The DVC7K is a HART®communicating device

Ease of Use

• Enhanced Safety — The DVC7K is a HART®

communicating device; information can be accessed

anywhere along the loop. This flexibility can reduce

exposure to hazardous environments and make it easier

to evaluate valves in hard-to-reach locations.

• Local User Interface (LUI) — The full text display in

the local interface is easy to navigate due to the six

button LUI (Figure 2). Each unit can be configured to

display Arabic, Chinese, Czech, English, French, German,

Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian or

Spanish. View the Travel vs. Travel Setpoint, Instrument

Mode and Valve Health instantly from the home screen.

• Valve Health — Identify the health status of the valve

assembly at a distance with the NE 107 LED indicator.

Quickly troubleshoot issues and identify recommended

actions with Advice at the Device. Additionally, use the

LUI to view primary variables like supply pressure and

input current.

• Faster Commissioning — HART communications allow

the user to quickly commission loops with a variety

of tools from a remote location or locally at the valve

assembly with the LUI.

• Flexible Connectivity — Emerson’s secure Bluetooth®

wireless technology implementation (future release)

enables ability to see health across multiple valves.

• Easy Maintenance — The DVC7K is modular in design.

Critical working components can be replaced without

removing field wiring or pneumatic tubing.

Emerson DVC7K-H Linkage‐Less Non‐Contact Position Feedback

Features

Reliability

• Linkage‐Less Non‐Contact Position Feedback — The

high performance, linkage-less feedback system, shown

in Figure 1. eliminates physical contact between the valve

stem and the instrument. There is no wearing of parts

so cycle life is maximized. Additionally, the elimination

of levers and linkages reduces the number of mounting

parts and mounting complexity. Instrument replacement

and maintenance is simplified because the feedback

parts stay connected to the actuator stem.

• Built to Survive — The DVC7K’s field-proven conformal

coated electronics resist the effects of vibration,

temperature and corrosive atmospheres per the

ISA.75.13 standard. A weather‐tight housing construction

protects the wiring terminal box and critical components

from harsh environmental conditions.

• Eliminate Solenoids  — DVC7Ks in the On/Off

Application Mode provide a more reliable solution over

traditional solenoid valves. They also provide diagnostic

alerts to support early identification of problems

Emerson FIELDVUE DVC7K digital valve controller

The FIELDVUE DVC7K digital valve controller is reliable

and intuitive, featuring diagnostics that are targeted for

your On/Off applications. It converts a 4-20 mA or 24 V DC

input signal into a pneumatic output signal that controls

the actuator on the valve. Perform setup and configuration

procedures, check the valve health, and get Advice at the

Device™ using the simple-to-use Local User Interface

(LUI). The interface can be configured to support multiple

languages with a few button pushes.

Performance

• Accurate and Responsive — The two‐stage instrument

design provides quick response. Additionally, the DVC7K

allows users to customize the performance of their valve,

with a configurable ramp open rate and ramp closed rate.

CT/VT modules with enhanced diagnostics

Conclusion

CT/VT modules with enhanced diagnostics, released on 23 October 2006 with firmware 5.2.

offer much higher security for internal CT/VT module error detection and prevent undesired operations of URs.

Every UR firmware released since version 5.2 supports CT/VT modules with enhanced diagnostics,

which greatly improves the security and reliability of the protection system.

To take advantage of this feature, a relay hardware and possibly firmware upgrade is required.

If the existing relay has a firmware version below 4.0. GE recommends purchasing a

UR Upgrade Kit that allows modernization of the obsolete relay hardware

while taking advantage of the relay modularity.

The UR Upgrade Kit contains a new CPU and CT/VT modules that can be

inserted in an existing relay case (case is fully backwards compatible).

If the relay currently has firmware version 4.0 to 5.0. the latest firmware

can be downloaded from the GE Multilin website, and Enhanced Diagnostic

CT/VT modules (8L, 8M, 8N, 8R, 8S, 8V) can be purchased from the GE Online Store.

Consult with your local GE representative if you have any questions on the upgrade process.

The CT/VT input modules with enhanced diagnostics

Internal CT secondary monitoring

The CT/VT input modules with enhanced diagnostics are monitoring internal CT circuitry integrity.

This is done to eliminate relay erroneous operation in case of CT secondary winding failure.

The secondary winding of CT is divided into two equal parts with a central tap in the middle.

CT current values from both halves of the CT secondary windings are run through

a differential amplifier to get a true current sample for the phasor calculations.

It also compares between each other by simply summing two samples together.

(Note that due to CT central tap, samples have different polarity.)

In case that values from different halves of the same CT accumulated over

one protection pass per adaptable per signal level do exceed the fixed error boundary,

failure is declared and protection is blocked.

CT secondary monitoring is performed at all four CT channels (A, B, C, and N) individually at each CT

bank.

GE CT/VT Modules with Enhanced Diagnostics INTRODUCTION

INTRODUCTION

The performance of a microprocessor-based relay is highly dependent

on the performance of the analog channels measurement of the relay,

as protection functions operate on these values.

The failure of an analog measurement channel,

either due to a failure in the external measurement circuit,

or due to an internal failure inside a UR CT/VT module,

can cause incorrect operation of protection functions.

The UR CT/VT modules with Enhanced Diagnostics (module types 8L, 8M, 8N, 8R, 8S, 8V)

can detect the failure of an analog channel measurement due to internal

failures of the CT/VT module, alarm for failure of the module,

and block tripping from any protection function associated with this module.

This feature is available when using firmware 5.20 or later within

the UR family and therefore field-proven since 2006.
