Bently Nevada SCOUT200 series

Portable vibration analyzers

These portable data collector solutions record the vibration

of industrial machines, to monitor their condition and

diagnose their faults. The Series includes “SCOUT” models

for use in hazardous areas (explosive atmospheres) and

“COMMTEST” models for less stressful environments. There

are 2-channel and 4-channel versions of each, to suit your

data acquisition and analysis needs.

Designed in and for the 21st century

These two-part solutions utilize the power and

connectivity of modern industrial smartphones

and tablets, paired with a small form factor,

rugged data acquisition module. This gives the

best of both worlds, a fast handheld device full of accessories

and communication options, and a simple durable interface

to sensors on your machines.

CT/VT Modules with Enhanced Diagnostics Internal CT secondary monitoring

After the multiplexer samples analog channels via the sample and hold (S/H) mechanism, samples from all four channels are summed up digitally, using the same equation to get a digital value Sd. The “Mean Square” of the difference between the channels is summed up in the hardware and an equivalent, computed digitally over one protection pass is supplied to the comparator. If the summed squared difference Σ(Sa – Sd)2 is greater than the adaptable per signal level error boundary, then “invalid data” is declared and protection functions using the measured data are momentarily blocked. In addition, if the error keeps repeating, a major self-test diagnostics error message is displayed on the UR. As a result of such failure, the relay’s self-test alarm contact operates and the relay is taken out of service. The relay can be rebooted and if no more failures are detected, it continues to be functional unless a new failure is detected and the relay is again taken out of service. The above analog data integrity check is performed on both analog banks (that is, four currents or four voltages) within each CT/VT input module.

In addition, these modules with enhanced diagnostics include power supply voltage rail monitoring to further monitor hardware health. This is achieved by continuous check of the power supply voltage Vdc against safe operate reference voltage Vref, which ensures that all electronic components of the CT/VT module operate in the safe operating conditions.

Internal CT secondary monitoring

The CT/VT input modules with enhanced diagnostics are monitoring internal CT circuitry integrity. This is done to eliminate relay erroneous operation in case of CT secondary winding failure. The secondary winding of CT is divided into two equal parts with a central tap in the middle. CT current values from both halves of the CT secondary windings are run through a differential amplifier to get a true current sample for the phasor calculations. It also compares between each other by simply summing two samples together. (Note that due to CT central tap, samples have different polarity.) In case that values from different halves of the same CT accumulated over one protection pass per adaptable per signal level do exceed the fixed error boundary, failure is declared and protection is blocked. CT secondary monitoring is performed at all four CT channels (A, B, C, and N) individually at each CT bank.

CT/VT Modules with Enhanced Diagnostics

INTRODUCTION

The performance of a microprocessor-based relay is highly dependent on the performance of the analog channels measurement of the relay, as protection functions operate on these values. The failure of an analog measurement channel, either due to a failure in the external measurement circuit, or due to an internal failure inside a UR CT/VT module, can cause incorrect operation of protection functions. The UR CT/VT modules with Enhanced Diagnostics (module types 8L, 8M, 8N, 8R, 8S, 8V) can detect the failure of an analog channel measurement due to internal failures of the CT/VT module, alarm for failure of the module, and block tripping from any protection function associated with this module. This feature is available when using firmware 5.20 or later within the UR family and therefore field-proven since 2006.

Analog data integrity validation

The CT/VT input modules (8L, 8M, 8N, 8R, 8S, 8V) use an analog data integrity check to verify the performance of the analog measurement channels. This feature uses an additional analog hardware channel that has as its input, an analog sum of Sa = Xa – Xb + Xc + Xn, where X stands for either Voltage or Current phases A, B, C, and N analog inputs, to monitor the integrity of analog data.

ABB Power Supply SA 801F / SA 811F

Features

… Input voltage 115 – 230 VAC (self adjusting), output is elec

trically isolated

… Power supply outputs provide:

SA 801 F: 5 V DC / 5 A and 3.3 V DC / 5 A

SA 811 F: 5 V DC / 5.5 A and 3.3 V DC / 6.5 A

… Enhanced power-fail prediction and shutdown procedures

… LED indication for power supply status and operating

status of the AC 800F

… Short circuit proof, current limited

… 20 ms backup energy for use in the event of primary power

failure, according to NAMUR

Description

The AC 800F modules are supplied with 5 V DC / 5 A and 3.3 V DC / 5 A auxiliary power by the SA 801F or 5 V DC / 5.5 A and 3.3 V DC / 6.5 A by the SA 811F power supply. The power supply has open-circuit, overload and sustained short-circuit protection. The electronically controlled output voltage provides high stability and low residual ripple. In case of power loss ≥5 ms, the power supply module generates a power-fail signal. This signal is used by the CPU module to shut down operations and enter to a safe state. This is required for a controlled restart of the system and the user application when power is restored. The output voltage remains within its tolerance limits for at least another 15 ms. Altogether a mains voltage drop of 20 ms will be managed.

Bently Nevada Asset Condition Monitoring 3300/03 System Monitor

MONITOR FUNCTIONS

SYSTEM POWER-UP INHIBIT

The System Monitor provides a Power-up Inhibit function. This function allows each monitor to

inhibit its alarms during power-up or whenever a system supply voltage falls below its operating

level. After power-up, the inhibit function remains active for approximately 2 seconds.

RACK INHIBIT

When activated by a external contact closure this function places all monitors in bypass, disables

all alarms, zero scales all outputs, and de-energizes the system OK relay. The connections for this

function are located on the power input module (PIM) at the rear of the rack.

TRIP MULTIPLY

The most common use of this function is to prevent unwanted monitor alarms during certain

conditions of machine operation. In the operation of some machinery, it is impossible to avoid

some periods of “higher than normal” vibration. Examples include startup and coastdown,

especially if the operating speed is above rotor system balance resonances (“critical speeds”),

structural and other resonances, and changes in machine load or other operating conditions.

The Trip Multiply function causes the monitor alarm setpoints (both Alert and Danger) to increase

by a fixed amount, either two times (2X) or three times (3X), according to the ordering option. Only

those monitors ordered with this option will be affected. The Trip Multiply function is performed in

the System Monitor, but is an ordering option for each monitor. It must be specified at the time of

order placement and be installed at the factory.

Trip Multiply is activated by contact closure on the PIM. A red LED on the System Monitor front

panel indicates that the Trip Multiply function is active.

Bently Nevada Asset Condition Monitoring 3300 Relay Modules

Description

Relays are important to the integrity of monitoring systems. They provide

external alarm annunciation or input to an automatic shutdown device. You can

order 3300 monitors with quality, built-in relays. Installation requires no external

wiring between relays and rack, and no extra housing to mount the relays. This

facilitates installation and minimizes the chance of errors associated with field wiring.

The 3300 system offers 2 relay module types:

• Dual, with 2 relays per module

• Quad, with 4 relays per module.

For system installations on the machine deck, in hazardous areas, or in areas

with harsh environments, the dual relay module is available with hermeticallysealed relays.

For non-hazardous areas and clean environments such as control

rooms or instrument panels, modules with epoxy-sealed relays are available.

All relay modules include arc suppressors as a standard feature to increase the

life of the contacts by reducing arcing at the switching point.
