KEBA KeTop T20 eco The lightest handheld operating device

KeTop T20 eco

The lightest handheld operating device

The KeTop T20 eco features a tactile membrane keyboard,

weighs less than half a kilogram and offers high perfor

mance for price-sensitive, mass-market applications.

Extensive customization options for visualization, keyboard

and operating elements make possible a wide range of ap

plications. Specially optimized keyboard variants are avail

able for use on CNC machines and for robotics.

KeTop T20 techno

Fully flexible thanks to LCD keyboard

In addition to the low weight, the tactile, freely designable

smart keypad is the highlight of the KeTop T20 techno. Lo

cated behind every single button is an LCD, allowing each

button to be individually customized in appearance and

function.

An unlimited number of individual keyboard layouts – inde

pendent of languages and symbols – are possible thanks

to this innovative technology. Customizing to batch size “1”

can easily be implemented, conventional labeling strips are

replaced.

KEBA KeTop T20 eco / techno Handheld terminal

The compact KeTop T20 impresses with excellent er

gonomics and low weight, which facilitates fatigue

free operation and teach-in by both right- and left

handed users for extended periods of time. With the

KeTop T20 eco and the KeTop T20 techno, two versions

with attractive price-performance ratio are available.

The dynamic display and hiding of needed and unneeded

buttons enables efficient user guidance. The learning curve

for users is thereby greatly simplified, and possible operat

ing errors are minimized. Keyboard layouts can simply be

adapted to the respective operating situation.

With the KeTop T20 techno, there is also more display area

available for the actual visualization since the operating

fields that are often dynamically displayed on the edge of

screens for button assignment can be depicted using the

LCD keyboard.

The keyboard layouts are created in a user-friendly manner

on a PC in the KeView KeyEdit software using Drag & Drop.

The display is quite reduced in function: It only allows the selection of predefined icons representing

modeand state information. There are several icon sets available which are stored in the KeTop T10 itself.

The KeTop T10 has an Ethernet interface which allows exchanging information with the control. The fol

lowing information is exchanged between controller and the device:

• state of keyboard and joystick

• current orientation of the device

• current selected icons for display

As a communication protocol KVC (KEBA Virtual Channel) based on UDP/IP designed by KEBA is used.

The protocol also implements a transfer of parameters. Parts of the data exchange are handled cyclically

like a live check to detect connection errors between KeTop T10 is active.

The communication protocol is integrated into the firmware of the KeTop T10. The firmware also contains

all (inertial) sensor evaluation to derive the orientation of the device. Furthermore a small web server

on the device allows basic diagnosis and network settings.

KEBA Functions of KeTop T10

Functions of KeTop T10

In principle the KeTop T10 is a operating device with keyboard, joystick and a small color LCD display for

showing operating modes and status. But in addition to that the device has knowledge about its own ori

entation in space. This information is used by the ro bot control to handle the robot.

The KeTop T10 itself has no built-in logic for robot jogging and no specific information about it. This way

it is up to the controller to implement the best way of using the device in a special context.

KEBA KeTop T10 directMove Operate robots

System overview

The KeTop T10 is a machine operating device that is intended for jogging robots in an intuitive way with

„DirectMove“. DirectMove is the name for operating a robot or a machine on the basis of position detec

tion in or parallel to the pointing direction.

Compared to a conventional KeTop the KeTop T10 is equipped with a firmware for calculating the ori

entation of the device and for communication with the control, since it has a limited graphical interface.

The key benefit of the KeTop T10 is the knowledge about it’s own orientation in space. This way the Ke

Top T10 can be used for selecting desired directions of movements. Similar to show a direction to a hu

man operator using ones finger.

Although the KeTop T10 is designed for jogging robots, it can be used for any application, where it is

useful to show directions or orientation in space by using the device itself.

An integrated emergency stop and an enabling control switch make it the perfect operating device

for any machine requiring save manual operation.

The  new, intuitive way of operation together with its compact size allows the operator to concentrate on

the operated machine instead of paying attention to the operating device.

The display of the KeTop T10 is used to display the status and shows the icons setted by the application

on the control. An exception are the error codes or internal icons (e.g. compass for referencing) which

are displayed directly by the KeTop T10.

KEBA KeTop T10 directMove Handheld terminal

Short description

Using the inertial sensors of the 6D Inertial Measurement Unit (6D IMU),

the KeTop T10 directMove detects its orientation and direction in three

-dimensional space. The operator can therefore easily specify the desired

movement or rotation of the robot’s TCP by indicating the KeTop T10

directMove in the direction of motion and then by deflecting a small joystick

– regardless of his/her position relative to the robot. The speed of motion

can be changed by adjusting the intensity of the joystick deflection.

This means that no in-depth knowledge of coordinate systems is required.

Teach-in is easier and more efficient for both experienced operators and new

users.

Maximum flexibility is achieved through four operating modes that are displayed

on the 1.5″ color display using icons:

directMove mode: the robot follows the direction instructions from the KeTop

T10 directMove completely free in space.

snap2grid mode: use of defined coordinate systems as reference directions for

the KeTop T10 directMove for precisely directed movements of the robot.

virtual handle mode: the KeTop T10 directMove acts as a virtual handle on the

Tool Center Point to change its alignment quickly and easily.

axial movement mode: for the direct movement of individual robot axes as with

a conventional handheld operating device.

With the KeTop T10 directMove, the individual path points are thereby determined

and finely adjusted. If necessary, standard operating devices and screen devices

such as laptops can also be used for programming.
