subcycle disturbance transients to protect mission-critical IT

equipment and infrastructure like motors, capacitor fuse banks,

transformers and conductors from damage.

• Minimize business interruptions by automatically diagnosing

disruptions to sensitive, mission-critical processes with Setpoint

Learning and pre-configured ITIC and SEMI-F47 triggers to get

started again as quickly as possible.

• Industry’s highest ANSI class accuracy, along with high-fidelity

512 or 1024 samples/cycle measurements on current, voltage,

power factor, and other comprehensive power metering param

eters such as harmonic distortion, flicker, crest factor, K-Factor,

and more.

• Circuit monitoring to improve the life of your infrastructure and

equipment investments: watching for harmonics, voltage tran

sients, and other potentially harmful power events.

• Circuit loading can be monitored with voltage and power levels,

power factor, energy usage, I/O status, and power quality

measurements, as well as harmonic plots, disturbance and tran

sient waveforms, and an ITIC disturbance summary screen.

• Power quality capture and analysis of multi-channel waveforms

and other information to support in-depth statistical analysis.

Eaton Power Xpert Quality Applications

Applications

• Protect the integrity of your most important systems with Eaton’s

patented Power Quality Health Index, which provides an intelligent

read-out of circuit health based on statistical analysis of power

quality events and disturbances.

• Diagnose PQ problems with +/-0.1 ms sequence of events recording

that uses PTP for high precision time stamping. This is 10x better

than the industry benchmark.

• Multichannel dual plotting allows comparisons of current and

voltage channels at high resolutions to easily explore the effect of

large loads on your system with a clarity never seen before.

• Investigate power quality disturbances by severity, time or occurrence

with Event Analysis Calendar, graphical ITIC/SEMI-F47 analysis, and

sequenced events – part of the unique web based analysis suite available

on board PXQ.

Eaton’s Power Xpert Quality (PXQ)

Overview

Eaton’s Power Xpert Quality (PXQ) event analysis system is a

state-of-the-art power quality monitoring instrument designed

for power distribution assemblies like low and medium voltage

switchgear and switchboards. Compatible with industry power

quality standards (such as IEC 61000-4-30 Class A and IEEE

1453), this ANSI C12.20 Class 0.1 metering device offers advanced

analytics at the edge that simplify troubleshooting of power-quality

events. A highly modular approach provides maximum flexibility

to configure a metering system that can grow with the application

it is monitoring.

Nidec Commander S100 Variable Speed A.C drive for induction motors

Product information

Introduction

Commander S100 is a general-purpose drive that delivers maximum

machine performance of induction motors for a range of applications.

The voltage and power rating of the drive should be chosen to suit

the mains supply and the induction motor to be controlled.

The default setting of drive parameters have been selected for the

majority of use cases but can be adjusted to optimize the drive for a

specific application.

The drive is fitted with a terminal cover which will need to be removed

to wire the drive. Re-installing the terminal cover after wiring is optional

on the Commander S100.

Marshal commissioning and diagnostic app

The Marshal app provides a rich interface for commissioning, cloning, and

monitoring the drive. Marshal includes simple tools and setup wizards to

configure the drive for an application and drive diagnostics.

Marshal is for use on smartphones and tablets that support NFC technology

and is available from the Google Play store and the App Store. For details on

compatible phones and using Marshal to commission the drive see section

5.1 Marshal mobile app.

superior products and excellent service, delivering customer

success every project, every time.

Variable Frequency Drives in Electric Power Plants

Every step of the way, from the fuel to the grid, variable

frequency drives (VFDs) are used to smoothly start large

motors and continuously adjust the speed as required by

the process. Induction and synchronous motors driving

boiler feed pumps, forced draft fans, induced draft fans,

service water pumps, and conveyors use VFDs to provide

high power, accurate speed control, and effi cient fl ow

control with signifi cant energy savings.

Controlling fan fl ow by adjusting speed avoids wasting

energy in fl ow control vanes, dampers, and louvers.

When large fl ows must be controlled and motor energy

consumption is signifi cant, varying the motor speed is

the answer.  With large machines, the electrical power

savings can amount to hundreds of thousands of dollars

per year.  In addition, the drives smoothly start the motors,

protecting them against starting inrush currents, thus

avoiding thermal stress and extending motor life.
