Foxboro I/A Series® system

Introduction

The Foxboro I/A Series® system, as introduced in 1987 was

claimed to be ahead of its time. Fast forward to the current

generation of automation technologies and Emerson is the clear

choice to move your business forward for decades to come.

Aging I/A Series systems need to be modernized and Emerson

is committed to making your transition to a DeltaV™ system,

smooth, low risk and cost effective. From early modernization

planning to long term lifecycle care, Emerson has provided

industry leading solutions and service to complete more than

130 projects replacing Foxboro I/A Series systems. Partner with

us for your transformation to a digital architecture, resulting in

improved business performance and competitive edge.

Why Choose Emerson As Your

Automation Partner?

Modernization projects are different. They require knowledge

of both old and new technology and have fewer degrees of

freedom than greenfield projects, i.e. space, time, and budget.

The transition project will impact operations, often must be

done during short shutdown windows and has the potential

to put production at risk.

This puts a premium on risk reduction, flexibility,

and capital efficiency.

Foxboro I/A Series system DCS Fieldbus Modules (FBMs)

OVERVIEW

The I/A Series system DCS Fieldbus Modules (FBMs)

are for migration of APACS+™ automation systems

manufactured by Siemens® Energy & Automation,

Inc. and Moore Products Co. The FBMs plug directly

into an existing electronic nest to replace process

input and output modules.

The I/A Series system DCS FBM family provides a

migration path from APACS+ process I/O

components to I/A Series display and supervisory

functions. No additional communication devices are

required. No multi-vendor communication software

licensing is required.

The I/A Series system DCS FBM family replaces the

APACS+ I/O modules. Once integrated, the process

is controlled entirely by the advanced I/A Series

algorithm set.

The I/A Series system DCS FBM product includes

connectors to enable integration of original process

signals to I/A Series systems while keeping the field

interface and wiring. It provides access to all process

signals connected to the APACS+ system by

providing the connection between the Field

Termination Assemblies (FTAs) and the I/A Series

system. All process signals become fully integrated

into the I/A Series system through the use of process

data for operator display, history, alarming and

control.

Operator functions and engineering configuration are

accomplished by the I/A Series system at any

I/A Series operator workstation. Because all process

values become part of the I/A Series system, all

configuration data is maintained by the system as

native I/A Series configurations.

This migration path provides plant operations with all

the power and flexibility of the I/A Series system.

FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLE

Invensys believes that it is only acceptable to

interface with competing manufacturers’ operating

systems in two ways:

 Through high level public gateways

 At the lowest level directly to field devices without

communicating with proprietary buses or

components.

The Invensys migration product offerings adhere to

this principle.

I/A Series® system Field Control Processor 270 (FCP270)

I/A Series® system Field Control Processor 270 (FCP270)

Foxboro™ DCS G61 Ingress Protection

Ingress Protection

The metal enclosures provide the outer layer of protection for the control electronics.

Other layers are provided by the module covers and built into the modules. This

approach to protection means that a minimum of contaminants in the plant

environment reaches the control components, thus greatly extending the life of the

equipment.

For sealed, non-adjoined G61 enclosures, heat is transferred from the interior

surfaces of the enclosure and then dissipated by the enclosure’s exterior surfaces into

the plant environment. Air is not exchanged between the enclosure’s interior and the

outside environment. Therefore, contaminants are minimized inside the enclosure.

The enclosures support convenient top or bottom cable entry for TA cabling and

power wiring. Vented enclosures with roof-mounted fans are not recommended with

top cable entry, due to the location of the power supplies.

Foxboro™ G61EcoStruxure™ Triconex™ Tricon termination enclosure

Overview

The G61EcoStruxure™ Triconex™ Tricon termination enclosure is specifically

designed for housing Triconex termination devices and additional customer-supplied

terminal blocks for marshalling. This enclosure may accommodate the termination of

Tricon modules which are housed in a G60 Tricon System Enclosure or G62/G72

Tricon System and Termination Enclosure.

The G61enclosure is available as a vented or sealed enclosure. It can be configured

with:

• Uptosevenvertical DIN rails for mounting of Triconex termination devices and

additional customer-supplied terminal blocks for marshalling

• Redundantpowersupplies (480 W or 960 W 24 VDCpower supplies) for field

power

The G61vented enclosure is a free-standing, floor mounted unit with an IP43/55

rating for location in mild (ordinary) environmental areas.

The G61sealed enclosure is a free-standing, floor mounted unit, with options for

either an IP55 or IP66 rating for location in harsh environments.

Sealed enclosures with an IP66 rating provide a higher level of protection from

airborne contamination.

NOTE: In regions that require EMC compliance, you must order the EMC

compliance option if the Triconex termination devices for Tricon modules SMM or

SRXMwill be installed in this enclosure. Without these termination devices, the

enclosure already fulfills the requirements for EMC compliance.

An optional door intrusion monitoring switch is available for each door on this

enclosure. Each switch is prewired to a set of alarm status terminal blocks.

The G61enclosure can be installed bayed or adjoined to other Triconex enclosures to

maximize the use of floor space and ease of cabling. The enclosures can be bayed

together using third-party kits.

This enclosure and its configurations have been tested and qualified by Foxboro for

use with the Tricon equipment.

Foxboro G60 Tricon System Enclosure I/A Series® HARDWARE

INTRODUCTION

The G60 enclosure is specifically designed for

housing Tricon system chassis and modules. It is

designed for use with the G61 or G66 Tricon

Termination Enclosures, and is available as a vented

enclosure only.

The G60 enclosure can be configured with up to

three Tricon chassis. Main power entry can include

optional EMC/RFI line filters. It is a free-standing,

floor mounted unit with an IP 43 rating for location in

mild (ordinary) environmental areas. A version is

available with optional EMC compliance.

NOTE

In regions that require EMC compliance, you

must order the EMC compliance option if

Tricon modules SMM or SRXM will be

installed in a chassis in this enclosure.

Without these modules, the enclosure

already fulfills the requirements for EMC

compliance.

The G60 enclosure, IP 43 rated, can be installed

bayed or adjoined to others to maximize the use of

floor space and ease of cabling. The enclosures can

be bayed together using third-party kits.

This enclosure and its configurations have been

tested and qualified by Invensys for use with the

Tricon chassis.

NOTE

It is possible to configure the G60 enclosure

with front access only and the safety glass

front door. However, since no ventilation is

located on a rear wall, the end-user is

responsible for locating adequate inlet

ventilation to maintain proper operation of

the enclosure’s equipment, through

ventilation on a side wall or from an adjoined

cabinet.

Vented enclosures have a limited thermal load (see

“Operating Temperatures (Ambient)” on page 8).

INGRESS PROTECTION

The metal enclosures provide the outer layer of

protection for the control electronics. Other layers are

provided by the module covers and built into the

modules. This approach to protection means that a

minimum of contaminants in the plant environment

reaches the control components, thus greatly

extending the life of the equipment.

DUAL THERMOSTAT

An optional dual (high/low) thermostat is available to

monitor enclosure temperature extremes.

DOOR INTRUSION MONITORING

An optional door intrusion monitoring switch is

available for each door on the enclosure. Each switch

is prewired to a set of alarm status terminal blocks.
