Johnson Controls System Accessories, LCD Annunciators

Operation

System Controls. Notification appliances can be

deactivated by pressing the “ALARM SILENCE” switch.

(Exact operation is determined by the host control panel

such as visible appliances remaining on until system is

reset.) Pressing the “SYSTEM RESET” switch restores

the system to normal operation. When system activity is

normal, the LCD displays the time, date, and “SYSTEM

IS NORMAL.”

Control Switches. Four programmable “CONTROL”

switches and associated LEDs are included. Typical

applications include manual evacuation, door holder

release bypass, and elevator capture bypass.

Keyswitch Enable. All switches on the annunciator are

controlled by the “ENABLE” keyswitch with a key that is

removable only in the disabled position. A brief

lamp/LCD test is performed whenever the keyswitch is

changed from enabled to disabled.

Battery Backup Operation. During battery backup,

the LED backlighting is disabled to conserve battery

power. When an annunciator switch is activated, the

backlighting is automatically enabled. After

approximately 30 seconds of inactivity, the backlighting

will again be disabled.

Johnson Controls Remote Control and Annunciation is provided using an 80 character

Description

Remote Control and Annunciation is provided using

an 80 character, back-lit, alphanumeric display.

Information is presented in clear, descriptive English

language and includes: Point Status (alarm, trouble, etc.);

Alarm Type (smoke detector, manual station, etc.);

Number of System Alarms, Supervisory Conditions,

and Trouble Conditions; and a Custom Location Label.

Wiring. A single twisted wire pair provides serial RUI

communications that also supports other Simplex serial

annunciators on the same wire pair.

Multiple Indications. Alarm, Supervisory, and Trouble

conditions are also indicated by dedicated LEDs and a

tone-alert audible sounder. Each condition has a dedicated

acknowledge push-button switch that silences the

tone-alert but leaves the LED on until all conditions in

that category are restored to normal. Switch operation is

either globally or individually acknowledgeable,

determined by the control panel operation.

Repeated operation of the appropriate acknowledge

switch will scroll the LCD display showing activity in the

sequence of occurrence. The tone-alert also pulses to

indicate the operation of any of the push-button switches.

Consult local code requirements for guidance in

determining applications and location of the 4603-9101

LCD annunciator.

Johnson Controls Module Bay Description Remote Annunciators

Module Bay Description

Remote Annunciators

Remote annunciators include a bay assembly, a power distribution

interface module (PDI), a Transponder Interface Module, and an

interconnect harness. Communications with the host fire alarm

control panel are through a Remote Unit Interface (RUI or RUI+)

connection that allows for up to 2500 ft (762 m) distance. RUI can

communicate with up to a total of 31 remote devices for each master

controller (on one or multiple RUI channels) and can be wired as a

Class B or Class X communication pathway. Wiring can be either

shielded or unshielded, twisted, or untwisted single pair wiring.

Optional Expansion Bays

Each includes a PDI and accept a variety of optional modules for

specific annunciator functions.

The Battery Compartment

The battery compartment (bottom) accepts two batteries, up to 50 Ah.

Battery mounting does not interfere with available module space.

Packaging Availability

• Modules are power-limited (except as noted, such as relay modules)

• Enclosure are available for one, two, or three bay sizes or for cabinet

rack mounting

• Boxes, doors with tempered glass inserts, and dress panels are available

in beige or red (ordered separately)

• Refer to document  S4100-0037  for enclosure details.

Remote Command Center

The optional Remote Command Center occupies the top bay of a Remote

Annunciator. It provides an LCD status readout with keyswitch activated

control switches and a local tone-alert sounder. Features are essentially

identical to the Remote LCD Annunciator model 4603-9101 (reference

document S4603-0001).

Johnson Controls Simplex Remote Annunciator Panels

Introduction

Remote Annunciator Panels

Remote Annunciator Panels are dedicated purpose transponders that

support fire alarm system status information. Typical use is when the

host fire alarm control panel is located away from the area where those

responding to a fire situation need status information.

Status and Control

Controls are suitable for firefighter or other fire brigade responders to

access particular information and for system control. When equipped

with a remote microphone and emergency voice/alarm communications

system control, an authorized user can take command of the system

and either play selected pre-recorded messages or select specific tones,

or initiate live broadcast information either globally into the system, or to

selected areas.

Remote Master Firefighter Phone

When equipped with a remote master phone, the authorized user can

connect to remote phone call-in requests and callers can be connected

to each other. Although intended for use in assisting fire responders,

these system are also helpful during system setup and test.

Johnson Controls Simplex 4100ES Wiring requirements

Wiring requirements:

• RUI or RUI+ (remote unit interface) supervised communications
