Vibro-Meter VM600 IOC4T Input/Output Card Application

For example, in a typical application, these relays can be used to signal an MPC4 fault or

a problem detected by the common alarms (Sensor Normal, Alarm, and Hazard).

In addition, 32 digital signals representing alarms are transmitted to the rack backplane and

can be used by the optional RLC16 Relay Card and/or IRC4 Intelligent Relay Card (with optional jumpers)

mounted in the rack.

Application Information

The IOC4T, when paired with the MPC4 Machinery Protection Card, is ideally suited for

machinery monitoring and protection in a variety of industrial applications.

For more information on using the MPC4/IOC4T card pair, see

VM600 Machinery Protection System (MPS) Hardware Manual and the VM600 MPSx Software Manual.

For information on using the MPC4/IOC4T card pair in a functional safety environment, refer to the

VM600 Functional Safety manual.

Vibro-Meter VM600 IOC4T Input/Output Card EMI

The IOC4T card protects all inputs and outputs from electromagnetic interference (EMI)

and signal surges and complies with electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standards.

The IOC4T connects raw dynamic (vibration) and velocity signals from sensors to the MPC4.

These signals are processed and passed back to the IOC4T and made available on its front panel (rear of

the VM600) terminal strip.

For dynamic signals, four on-board digital-to-analog converters (DACs) provide calibrated signal outputs

in the 0 to 10 V range.

In addition, four on-board voltage-to-current converters provide current output signals in the 4 to 20 mA

range (jumper optional).

The IOC4T contains four local relays that can be used for any specific alarm signal under software control.

Vibro-Meter VM600 IOC4T Input/Output Card Description

Description

IOC4T Card

The IOC4T Input/Output card is the signal interface for Meggitt’s VM600 series MPC4 machine protection card.

It is mounted on the rear of the VM600 rack and connects directly to the rack backplane via two connectors.

Each IOC4T card is associated with the corresponding MPC4 card and is mounted directly to the rear of the VM600 rack (ABE04x or ABE056).

The IOC4T operates in slave mode and communicates with the MPC4 through connector P2 using the Industrial Packet (IP) interface.

The front panel of the IOC4T (rear of the VM600 frame) contains terminal strip connectors

for connecting the transmission cables from the measurement chain (sensors and/or signal conditioners).

The threaded terminal connectors are also used to input all signals from any

external control system and output all signals to any external control system.

The IOC4T card protects all inputs and outputs from electromagnetic interference (EMI)

System Features

SIL 2 certified (TÜV Nord)

Hot-swappable monitor card

Suitable for accelerometers, proximity probes, speed, dynamic pressure and icing detection sensors

Suitable for integration with VibroSight analysis and data processing software

Protection card (MPC4Mk2): 4 dynamic channels and 2 auxiliary channels

Monitoring card (XMV16): 16 dynamic channels and 4 tachometer channels

Standard 19-inch 6U machine

The VM600Mk2 uses a single type of card (MPC4Mk2) for monitoring and condition monitoring.

However, these functions are tightly segregated to ensure API 670 compliance and reduce costs.

A separate (optional) XMV16 condition monitoring card is available for applications with a large number of channels.

High channel density

The standalone VM600Mk2 protection card has 4 input channels, but each VM600 can be expanded

to a maximum of 48 input channels Mk2 racks, allowing vibration protection to be extended to the most demanding rotating machinery.

requiring centralized monitoring and a high channel count.

Typical applications include:

■ Gas turbines

■ Steam turbines

■ Water turbines

Other critical rotating machinery

Design

The Vibrometer VM600Mk2 is designed to provide state-of-the-art vibration monitoring and protection

(SIL 2),especially for large critical rotating machinery with high channel counts.

Its modular 19-inch card allows the user to build a system to suit specific application requirements.

In addition, the system can be integrated with VibroSight software, which provides detailed insight into

the condition of rotating machinery and a wide range of analysis options.

Vibro-Meter VM600 MPC4 Mechanical Protection Card Isolation

Isolation of MPS and CMS

The VM600 rack, Mechanical Protection Card, Condition Monitoring Card and associated software

have been designed to comply with the API670 standard for the isolation of the Mechanical Protection System (MPS)

and Condition Monitoring System (CMS) to ensure that the functionality of the MPS is not dependent on,

or in any way affected by, the operation of the CMS.

Therefore, whilst Mechanical Protection and Condition Monitoring cards can easily share sensor

signals from the measurement chain, in a VM600 rack, the MPC4/IOC4T card pair

does not share any communication buses with the XMx16/XIO16T Condition Monitoring card pair

and the MPC4/IOC4T card pair is configured and operated using the VM600 MPSx

software (whereas the XMx16/XIO16T card pair is configured and operated using the VM600 MPSx

software (whereas the XMx16/XIO16T card pair is configured and operated using the VM600 MPSx software).

XIO16T card pair is configured and operated using VibroSight® software).

Application Information

The MPC4. when used in pairs with the IOC4T I/O cards, is ideally suited for machinery

monitoring and protection in a variety of industrial applications.

card pairs and the RLC16 relay card. It has a VME-compatible slave interface so that it

can be configured via software via VME when VME is available.

It is software configurable via VME when acting as a rack controller in a VM600 rack.

It is also software configurable via RS-232 (on the front panel of the card).

The ‘Secure’ (SIL) MPC4 card (MPC4SIL) has been developed to provide a wider range of installation options.

Specifically, the VM600 rack also contains condition monitoring cards (e.g. XMx16) and relay cards (e.g. IRC4).

In order to certify the security of these configurations, it is necessary to ensure that the MPC4SIL

is isolated from the other cards in the VM600 chassis so that its configuration is not inadvertently modified.

Vibro-Meter VM600 MPC4 Mechanical Protection Card Description Different versions

Different versions of the MPC4 card

There are different versions of the MPC4 card, including “Standard”, “Circuit Independent” and “Secure”

(SIL) versions.

In addition, some versions have a conformal coating applied to the card’s circuitry to provide additional

environmental protection against chemicals, dust, moisture and temperature extremes.

Both the “Standard” version and the “Safety” (SIL) version of the MPC4 card are certified to

IEC 61508 and ISO 13849 for use in functional safety environments such as SIL 1 according to IEC 61508 and ISO 13849-1 for PL c.

The “standard” MPC4 card is the original version and supports all functions and processing modes.

The “standard” MPC4 is suitable for safety systems using the VM600 rack.

There are three versions of the MPC4 card: the “standard” version, the “circuit independent” version,

and the “safe” (SIL) version, all of which use the appropriate IOC4T input /output cards as card pairs.
