GE Fanuc input/output modules can be plugged in or removed from the GE Fanuc IC670CHS102 Input/Output Chassis Terminal Block without prior disconnection of power. However, this operation (known as hot plugging) should not be performed in hazardous locations as it may generate sparks that could start a fire in those locations. The hot-swap operation is available only if the Bus Interface Unit or BIU in the system is version 2.1 or later. Each GE Fanuc IC670CHS102 input/output chassis junction box can accommodate up to two individual modules with catalogue number suffix ‘J’ or larger. There are 37 screw connection points in the junction box, each capable of connecting 1 AWG#14 wire or 2 AWG#18 to AWG#22 wires.

The I/O terminal blocks are universal wiring bases www.cniacs.com that provide module mounting, backplane communications, and user connection terminals. Two modules can be mounted on one terminal block. Modules are screwed to the terminal block for vibration resistance. Removal of the modules does not interfere with field wiring.

Each I/O module has three groups of isolated common terminals: Group A (internally connected together) and Group B (internally connected together) are typically used for power connections. group E has five common terminals that are internally connected together and are isolated from the power and point terminals. They can be used for application wiring as required. Terminals 1 – 16 are used for I/O wiring.

Each terminal can accommodate up to one AWG #14 (2.1 mm2 ) or two AWG #18 (0.86 mm2 ) to AWG #22 (0.35 mm2 ) wires.

Recommended terminal torque is 4.5 in/lbs. Maximum current through either terminal is 10 amps.

The I/O Terminal Block IC670CHS102 allows hot-swapping of modules without affecting the bus interface unit or other modules in the I/O station. Hot swapping should only be performed in non-hazardous locations.
