ABB MNS iS design aspects Module connection to distribution bars

Power contact

Connection to the distribution bars is realized

using the precision-engineered MNS power

contacts. The power contact is characterized by a

turn-able bearing, thus decoupling cable stress

and electrical contact. Consequently any cable

bending forces cannot affect the stability of the

power contact.

The mechanical stabilisation is taken over by

the supporting plate and the contact spring

where the contact fingers ensure positive

electrical contact. Contact fingers are silver

plated as standard.

The contact has been subjected to several tests in

order to prove the sophisticated design and the

high quality:

• Verification by testing acc. IEC 61439 series

• Corrosion test acc. DIN 50017 and

IEC 60068-2-60

• Crimping quality check acc. IEC 61238-1

• Vibration and shock test acc. IEC 60068-2-6

and IEC 60068-2-27

A condaptor unit facilitates the horizontal

distribution of power from the vertical

distribution bars for 6E/4 and 6E/2 modules, see

illustration on page 35. The condaptor enables

the modules to be located adjacently within the

same horizontal position of the cubicle.

Modules of size 6E and above are connected

directly to the vertical distribution bars.

MNS iS system overview

Function module concept

MNS iS motor control center solution delivers

all the functions for control, protection and

monitoring of the motors and motor starters

using software and hardware modules for the

specific tasks. Right information is provided to

the right people at the right time.

Hardware modules are designed to fulfill desired

tasks (power module containing electrical parts

e.g. to isolate power, control module containing

software applications etc. to control a motor).

System functions are provided as functional

modules to be downloaded to the control module.

Only required functions are downloaded while

others are available as options.

System functionality may be enhanced at any

time without the requirement for additional

hardware or wiring.

Time synchronization with a time server in the

plant or locally in the switchboard allows accurate

time stamps of alarms and events collected in the

control module.

Module and location supervision are available

as a standard. These functions ensure the

corresponding power and control modules are

installed to the correct location for the particular

motor/feeder application.

ABB Manual motor starter MS116

Manual motor starters are electromechanical devices for motor and circuit

protection. These devices offer local

motor disconnect means, manual ON/

OFF control, and protection against

short circuit, overload, and phase loss

conditions. Manual motor protection

saves cost, panel space, and ensures

fast and reliable short-circuit protection

by reacting within milliseconds. Closecoupling adaptors are available for

combination with ABB contactors.

Description

– Overload protection – trip class 10A

– Phase loss sensitivity

– Disconnect function

– Temperature compensation from -25 … +55 °C

– Adjustable current setting for overload protection

– Suitable for three- and single-phase application

– Trip-free mechanism

– Clear switch position indication ON/OFF

ABB launches Sensi+™ – a revolutionary analyzer for natural gas quality monitoring

– Single unit for continuous, simultaneous measurement of contaminants in H2 small, high 2O and CO2 natural gas streams for trade handover, tariff compliance and process monitoring

– ABB’s proven laser technology virtually eliminates false readings and provides fast response for reliable process control

– Designed for remote and hazardous locations, Sensi+ delivers superior performance and low cost of ownership

ABB’s Sensi+ analyzer offers a reliable new solution that simplifies and reduces pipeline operation and maintenance costs.

It enables safer, easier and more efficient pipeline monitoring and operation with a single device that

The device can analyze up to three contaminants (H2 minor, 2O major, CO2) accurately and in real time in any natural gas stream.

Its fast response also enables quick reaction to process disturbances, which can help reduce waste and methane emissions.

Reducing the risk and impact of natural gas contaminants often presents challenges for natural gas pipeline operators, the processing industry and natural gas utilities.

Description

• Overload protection – trip class 10A

• Phase loss sensitivity

• Disconnect function

• Temperature compensation from -25 … +50 °C

• Adjustable current setting for overload protection

• Suitable for three- and single-phase application

• Trip-free mechanism

• Clear switch position indication ON/OFF

Manual motor starters (also known

as motor protection circuit

breakers or manual motor

protectors) are electromechanical

protection devices for the main

circuit mainly used to switch

motors manually ON/OFF and

protect them fuseless against

short‑circuits, overloads and phase

failures. Fuseless protection with a

manual motor starter saves costs,

space and ensures a quick reaction

under short-circuit condition, by

switching off the motor within

milliseconds. Fuseless starter

combinations are setup together

with contactors.

ABB MNS iS The integrated solution for the WAGP project

Scope of supply

ABB S.p.A. (Italy), in cooperation with Lee Engineering &

Construction Co (Nigeria) and Franzisella S.p.A. (Italy), is

supplying a fully integrated solution for the WAGP (West

African Gas Pipeline) project in Nigeria.

The two WAGP Gas Compressor Stations in Utorogu and

Oben are based on the latest ABB MNS iS technology

installed into prefabricated E-houses.

The ABB MNS iS is the right solution to comply with the high

level of integration and compactness requested for the WAGP

Utorogu and Oben Gas Compressor Stations.

The ABB MNS iS Power and Motor Control Centers for the

WAGP project are fully integrated with the station DCS via

serial link (Profibus DP protocol) and are built in compliance

with Shell DEP standards.

Plant description

Pipelines are the most efficient way to distribute gas and

cover big distances especially in location with critical

environmental conditions like deserts, glaciers, high

mountains. To keep pressure and temperature of gas at the

right level, Gas Compressor Stations are present and placed

at 10 to 150 Km intervals along the pipeline. The low voltage

MCC is one of the most important and critical component of

those compressor stations
