TIM foils or otherwise known as graphite sheet have been introduced in use in ACS800 R7i &

R8i industrial air-cooled modules as part of normal continuous improvements in the ACS800

product family. Benefits of using TIM foils in comparison to thermal grease are easier installa

tion and more durable heat transferring properties for longer periods of time. Durability par

ticularly improved in a cyclic application.

New ACS800 R7i & R8i industrial air-cooled modules have been built using TIM foils since

1.10.2022. when ordering the module through BOL Drives Configurator. Current industrial air

cooled ACS800 R7i & R8i module fixed codes are available until 31.12.2022 and are delivered

with the thermal grease. All industrial air-cooled ACS800 R7i & R8i module orders will be avail

able only through BOL Drives Configurator starting 1.1.2023.

NOTE: Spare part wind specific modules with fixed codes will continue to be available and are

delivered with thermal grease and the wind specific DSW module repairs and other services

continue to use thermal grease until further notice.

All industrial air-cooled ACS800 R7i & R8i module repairs in Helsinki DSW are done with TIM

foil. DSW: s global implementation date for TIM foil is 1.11.2022.

Where and how to use

TIM foils are used to transfer the heat generated in the IGBT’s to the heatsink. Full instruc

tions on how to install TIM foils is described in document delivered with TIM IGBT spare part

kits. In R8i module it’s possible to use a mix of IGBT’s with thermal grease and TIM foils. In

parallel connected R8i modules it’s also possible to use a mix of modules using TIM foils and

thermal grease.

New ACS800 R7i & R8i industrial air-cooled modules have been built using TIM foils since

1.10.2022. when ordering the module through BOL Drives Configurator. Current industrial air

cooled ACS800 R7i & R8i module fixed codes are available until 31.12.2022 and are delivered

with the thermal grease. All industrial air-cooled ACS800 R7i & R8i module orders will be avail

able only through BOL Drives Configurator starting 1.1.2023.

The input voltage range is 18 to 30 volt dc and the input current

source is 6 mA at 24 V. The inputs are divided into two individualy

isolated groups with eight channels and one voltage supervision

input in each group. Every input channel consists of current limiting

components, EMC protection components, input state indication

LED and optical isolation barrier. The process voltage supervision

input give channel error signals if the voltage disappears. 

The error signal can be read through the ModuleBus.
