Introduction
The new DeltaV™ network “smart” switches are the next generation in the use of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components in control systems.
These switches combine the low cost of off-the-shelf components with DeltaV-specified software and features that
making it more integrated and plug-and-play in the DeltaV Area Control Network (ACN) and other DeltaV networks outside the ACN.
The DeltaV Smart Switch requires no configuration to operate in a DeltaV network.
Access to advanced features requires minimal configuration and is easily accomplished using the DeltaV Network Device Command Centre.
This ensures that all Smart Switches on the network are configured consistently and securely, and that the performance of the DeltaV system is not compromised by misconfiguring any switch function.
This dedicated switch allows the DeltaV system to provide an advanced security feature of automatic port lockout, which can be easily implemented by the control system user.
Control system users can easily implement this feature: an increasingly important product feature in today’s harsh environments.
The DeltaV Smart Switch is also pre-configured to utilise features in the latest software releases, such as ARP sniffing and enhanced security features.
(The DeltaV Smart Switch is also preconfigured to detect certain man-in-the-middle attacks using features in the latest version of the software, such as ARP sniffing and enhanced port locking algorithms: ARP spooffng detection and enhanced port locking algorithms.
