ABB REU610 Description Voltage Protection RELION® 610 SERIES

Description

REU610 is a voltage protection relay for system voltage

protection, measuring and supervising in utility and industrial

power systems. REU610 is a member of ABB’s Relion®

protection and control product family and part of its 610

product series. The 610 series includes protection relays for

feeder protection, motor protection and general system voltage

supervision. The plug-in design of the 610 series protection

relays facilitates the commissioning of the switchgear and

enables fast and safe insertion and withdrawal of relay plug-in units.

The protection relay is primarily designed for the overvoltage

protection of power system components, such as busbars,

feeders, power transformers and capacitor batteries. It is also

used for the general power system earth-fault supervision.

Further, the protection relay can be used for undervoltage

protection of motors and overvoltage protection of capacitor

batteries, for initialization of automatic busbar changeover and

disconnecting small power units from the network in case of a

major network disturbance. The 610 series protection relays

are suitable for employment in marine and offshore environments.

The numerical voltage protection relays of the 610 series

support a wide range of standard communication protocols,

among them the IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-103, DNP3, Modbus,

Profibus, LON and SPA communication protocols.

ABB REJ603 Application Self-powered feeder protection 605 series

Application

The REJ603 is a protection relay aimed at selective short-circuit and earth-fault protection

of feeders in secondary distribution networks and for protection of transformers in utilities and industries.

The inrush current stabilization function allows the relay to be used as main protection of

distribution transformers.

The relay is powered up through current transformer if current is above energizing level of

relay, front USB power or through auxiliary supply (optional feature).

The relay offers, non-directional over current and earth-fault protection.

The residual current for the earth-fault protection is derived from the phase currents.

When applicable, the corebalance current transformers can be used for measuring the residual current,

especially when sensitive earth-fault protection is required.

The relay additionally offers thermal overload protection for feeders, cables and transformers.

There is optional provision of remote trip through binary input with external auxiliary power supply.

The remote trip signals like transformer trouble output (Buchholz, Oil temperature,

Winding temperature trip) or an external trip can be wired

to binary input. The remote trip function works even in CT-powered mode when auxiliary supply

is not available but enough CT current is available to power-up the relay.

Measurement

The relay continuously measures phase currents and earth current. Earth current can be

measured using external core balance current transformer or can be calculated internally.

The relay has provision to display measured three phase current and earth current in primary

and secondary terms. Additionally, relay displays status of binary input, binary output and trip

counter for over current and earth fault trip.

During service, the default view of display shows three phase current and the earth current in

secondary terms. The values measured can be accessed using on the local HMI.

ABB 1MDU07204-YNE Protection Function Feeder Protection REF601

Protection Function

Three Phase Current Protection

Functionality

The three-phase overcurrent protections is used as single-phase, two-phase

or three phase non-directional overcurrent and short-circuit protection for feeders.

The function starts when the current exceeds the set limit.

The operate time characteristics for low stage is both DMT and IDMT and high stage is definite time (DT) definite minimum.

The instantaneous stage always operates with the DT characteristic.

In the DT mode, the function operates after a predefined operate time and resets when the fault current disappears.

The IDMT mode provides current-dependent timer characteristics.

Principle of Operation

The three-phase overcurrent unit continuously measures the phase currents of the protected object.

On detection of a fault the relay starts, trips the circuit breaker, records fault data etc. in accordance with the application.

REF601 has overcurrent protection with low set, high set and very high set module.

The product support both DMT and IDMT times in low set (I>) while high set (I>>) and Very high set (I>>>) supports to DMT timings.

As the fault current exceeds the set value, trip time counting is started and start LED on front panel of relay glows ON.
