Beckhoff C6015 | Fanless ultra-compact Industrial PC

With a mounting space of just 82 x 82 x 40 mm, the C6015 Industrial PC represents Beckhoff’s most compact entry-level

Industrial PC and price savings of 25% or more (depending on the configuration) place it well below the previously least

expensive x86 PCs. Due to its extremely compact size, the versatile and flexible mounting options and the impressive

computing power of the Intel Atom® processors, it fits into virtually any control cabinet and machine concept. Apart from use

for a wide range of automation tasks, the C6015 is mainly suitable for use as an IoT gateway, or as an edge device. The basis

for this is the full integration and compatibility of TwinCAT and EtherCAT.

Flexible mounting

In particular the wide variety of mounting options for the rear panel of the control cabinet or the DIN rail should be

highlighted with this Industrial PC series. The connection level can be freely oriented, i.e. adapted to possibly specified cable

layouts. Due to their maximum flexibility, the PCs fit in any niche in the control cabinet, however small.

Price-optimized

Due to the optimized housing and manufacturing concept, all Industrial PCs from the C60xx series are cost-optimized and are

often less expensive in direct comparison with other series in the Industrial PC product area without restrictions in industrial

compatibility, quality or durability.

ELAU Servo Drive MC-4

The circular digital SERCOS real-time bus realizes the safe data

exchange with the servo drive MC-4. Due to the use of optical fiber

technology, the data bus is insensitive to electromagnetic

disturbances and cyclically supplies the decentralized servo drive

MC-4 with new set values at a data rate of 4MBaud. All internal

states of the axes can be checked via the real-time bus and

processed in the PacDrive Controller.

In addition to digital and analog inputs and outputs, the PacDrive

Controller has two serial interfaces and one Ethernet interface. A

variety of process visualization and control systems can be

connected to the PacDrive™ system via the integrated OPC

interface. Further peripheral components can be connected via field

bus interface modules. The PacDrive Controller can act as a field

bus master or slave.

The international field bus standards CANopen, PROFIBUS-DP

and DeviceNet are supported. The built-in interfaces enable remote

diagnosis via telephone modem or Internet. Via TCP/IP, PC’s can

communicate with the PacDrive Controller and diagnose the state

of the control directly.

ELAU MC-4 Structure of the PacDrive™ Automation System

Structure of the PacDrive™ Automation System

The PacDrive™ automation system offers a technically and

economically optimal solution for electronic packaging machines.

PacDrive™ consists of an efficient PC-based control, the PacDrive

Controller and the digital MC-4 servo drive which include the mains

connection unit, the end-stage power and the servo regulator of the

individual axes (Fig. 3-2).

The PacDrive Controller is the intelligent head of the system, and is

based on an industrial PC. The PacDrive Controller synchronizes

and coordinates the motion functions of the packaging machine.

Using an IEC 1131-3 soft PLC, it ventures into applications

previously reserved for standard PLCs. The individual PLC or

positioning tasks can be broken down into several parallel tasks,

which are implemented with the EPAS-4 programming environment

according to the IEC 1131-3 standard. Up to 40 servo axes can be

connected to a PacDrive Controller and supplied with positioning

data.

ELAU PacDrive™ Servo drive MC-4

Unplanned machine states, such as stop or emergency off

situations or initialization movements can be realized

synchronously. Dynamic changes of the goods to be packed or the

packaging material in the plant, (like slippage of the products to be

packed or expansion of the packaging material) can be registered

by sensors while the machine is running and eliminated by

modifying the corresponding drive movements. This development

substantially changes and highly simplifies the classical mechanical

machine concept. The structure of the packaging machine can be

broken down into modules that are easy to apply and can be

standardized.

ELAU MC-4 Drive Concepts of Packaging Machines

System Overview

Drive Concepts of Packaging Machines

Modern machine concepts in the packaging industry are

characterized by the need for high dynamism, flexibility, modularity

and efficiency. Packaging machines were traditionally equipped

with a mechanical vertical shaft, which drove the secondary

motions in the machine, usually with mechanical components with

complicated motion functions. Designing such a machine, flexible

for different products is a highly complex task.  Even minor changes

in the packaging process, particularly in case of a product change,

require major modifications and standstill time.

Packaging machines with electronic vertical shafts permit full

flexibility. Electronic servo drive systems replace cam and coupling

gears and a virtual electronic vertical shaft ensures that the motion

axes are synchronous. Any pulse and angle synchronous

movements are determined by a central control.

B&R B&R X20CS1012 PLC Module X20 CS 1012

Material number:

X20CS1012

Description:

• Power supply for up to 64 slaves on the M-Bus

• Decentralized use of the communication interface

The M-Bus master is designed as a single-width module and

can be connected anywhere within the X20 I/O system.

It can therefore be used decentrally for distributed topologies.

The M-Bus master supports transfer rates of 300. 2400 and 9600

bit/s; up to 64 slaves supplied via M-Bus can be connected.

M-Bus (Meter-Bus) is a relatively simple fieldbus for recording

consumption data, such as from electricity or heat meters.

It is based on a reverse polarity protected two-wire line and works

according to the master-slave principle.

B&R X20BC00G3 X20 Series Controller

Material number:

X20BC00G3

Description:

• Fieldbus: EtherCAT

• Auto-configuration of I/O modules

• I/O configuration and firmware update via the fieldbus (FoE)

• Full support of the modular slice concept via CoE (CANopen over EtherCAT)

• Configurable I/O cycle (0.2 to 4 ms)

• Synchronization between the fieldbus and X2X Link

EtherCAT is an Ethernet-based fieldbus developed by Beckhoff. This protocol is suitable

for both hard and soft real-time requirements in automation technology. In addition to

a ring structure, which becomes logically necessary because of the summation frame

telegram used, the EtherCAT technology also physically supports topologies such as line,

tree, star (limited) and combinations of these topologies. B&R’s X20BC80G3 (expandable

bus controller module) and X20HB88G0 (standalone junction base module) are available

for implementing these topologies.

EtherCAT slave devices take the data designated for them from a telegram as it is passing

through the device. Input data is also added to the telegram as it is passing through.

The bus controller allows X2X Link I/O modules to be coupled to EtherCAT and operated on

any EtherCAT master system. A transition between IP20 and IP67 protection outside of the

control cabinet is possible by arranging X20. X67 or XV modules one after the other as

needed at distances up to 100 m.

Master systems without FoE (File access over EtherCAT) support require an appropriate

configuration tool to transfer the configuration (optional).

Beckhoff Programmable Controller CEDIO 16/16-0.5

The EK1101-0080 EtherCAT Coupler is the link between the EtherCAT protocol

at fieldbus level and the EtherCAT Terminals. The coupler converts the passing

telegrams from Ethernet 100BASE-TX to E-bus signal representation.

A station consists of a coupler and any number of EtherCAT Terminals that are

automatically detected and individually displayed in the process image.

Special features:

• Connection technology: 2 x RJ45 socket

• Connection lengths: up to 100 m

• Fast Hot Connect technology for changing topologies

• Number of EtherCAT Terminals in the overall system: up to 65.535

The EK1101-0080 supports Fast Hot Connect technology. This facilitates

significantly faster connection of the EtherCAT components in applications

with changing topologies. Compared to Hot Connect, which is an EtherCAT

feature and enables direct coupling and uncoupling of components during

system operation, Fast Hot Connect offers even faster data transfer and

allows even faster tool changes.
