Eaton’s MTL Process JBs are designed for mounting Megablock

fieldbus wiring components, terminators, F30 Ex ic adaptor, 9320

spur connections, surge protection devices and MTL831 Multiplexer

transmitters in order to meet the exacting requirements of process

industry customers.

MTL wiring components are established as the industry standard

for fieldbus device connections and are combined with Crouse-Hinds

junction box and cable glands in the Process JB product range.

Process JBs make it easy to install and maintain the fieldbus system.

For example, a minimum of 75mm (3”) of clearance is provided

for fieldbus cable connections. This ensures that the correct bend

radius is maintained when connecting to the full range of MTL wiring

components.

Eaton MTL4854 Multi-modem HART Multiplexer

For applications where communication paths with several field devices

need to be established and maintained in parallel, the Crouse-Hinds

series MTL4854 HART multiplexer is the ideal product to use.

This is a module that has the same 32 channel capacity as the MTL4850

for connection to field devices, but also has four HART modems rather

than just one.

Essentially, this gives 4 x 8 channel multiplexers in one compact housing,

enabling simultaneous communication with several field devices through

one serial link. One particular use for this is during partial stroke testing

of valve positioners, where the ability to maintain access to other

connected devices while the multiplexer would otherwise be locked

enables plant monitoring to continue.

• Division 2 (mounting)

• ATEX and IECEx

• Operating temperature range: -40°C to +70°C

• Non-operating temperature range: -40°C to +85°C

Design features

• Connection to multiple HART devices simultaneously

• Faster initialization and loop scanning

• Channel-to-channel isolation

• Plug-and-play for serial link communication parameters

• LED indication for fault diagnosis

Eaton JOCKEY Installation and Mounting of the Controller

INSTALLATION AND ELECTRICAL

CONNECTIONS

2.1 Installation and Mounting of the Controller

Carefully unpack the controller and inspect thoroughly. It is

recommended that the controller is located as close as is

practical to the motor it controls.

The controller is not free standing and must be bolted securely

to a wall. For dimensional and weight data please refer to the

respective data sheets for the Jockey Pump Controller.

2.2 System Pressure Connection

The Jockey Pump Controller is equipped with a Pressure

Transducer. The controller is provided with a ¼” NPT female

system pressure connection located on the bottom, external

side of the enclosure.

NOTE: Water lines to the pressure transducer must be free from

dirt and contamination. The pressure should not exceed what

the pressure transducer is rated for.

1.3 Safety Precautions

All safety codes, safety standards, and/or regulations must be

strictly observed in the installation, operation, and maintenance

of this device. Starting types of the JOCKEY Touch™ Jockey

Pump Controller include the following: XTJP-Across the Line,

XTJP-Wye-Delta (Star-Delta).

Eaton JOCKEY Electrical Connections

Electrical Connections

All electrical connections should meet national and local

electrical codes and standards.

The controller should be located or so protected that they will

not be damaged by water escaping from pumps or pump

connections.

Prior to starting, verify the AC line voltage on the nameplate

matches the supply voltage onsite. Also verify the motor FLA

matches the information on the nameplate.

Inspect all electrical connections, components and wiring for

any visible damage and correct as necessary. Ensure that all

electrical connections are tightened before energization.

Install necessary conduit using proper methods and tools.

Incoming AC line voltage is clearly marked L1. L2. L3 and

ground, located at the top of the motor circuit protector.

Eaton MTL4850 SIL3 HART Multiplexer

The Crouse-Hinds series MTL4850 SIL3 HART multiplexer delivers a compact,

high-performance solution for both retrofit and new project installations in

industrial automation. Its small footprint makes it ideal for space-constrained

environments, while its modular design supports flexible integration with a

wide range of instrumentation applications.

The MTL4850 interfaces seamlessly via termination boards, carriers, and

integrated backplanes, enabling efficient connectivity to smart field devices

and HART-enabled instruments. It is SIL3 rated, making it suitable for functional

safety applications and safety-related systems without disrupting analog signal

integrity.

Approved to the latest IEC61508 standards, the MTL4850 is the preferred choice

for process control, diagnostics, and instrument management in sectors such as

oil & gas, chemical processing, and pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Its robust design and proven reliability make it a trusted component in intrinsically

safe and hazardous area installations.

The MTL4850/54 offers connectivity to a comprehensive range of FDT

The MTL4854 mounts on the same range of backplane as

the MTL4850 but includes four HART modems that enable

simultaneous communications with connected field devices to

be carried out.

The primary application for this is to enable monitoring of other

channels to continue while one channel is being used for valve

positioner diagnostics.

The benefits of utilising these powerful software packages online

include:

• Reduced commissioning time and costs

• Reduced maintenance costs

• Reduced documentation

• Reduced process downtime

The MTL4850/54 offers connectivity to a comprehensive range

of FDT based software packages via the comms Device Type

Manager (DTM). The DTM can be downloaded from

www.mtl-inst.com. Other software packages work with the

MTL4850/54 through custom software drivers or by the inclusion

of the device description (DD) file for the MTL multiplexers.
