Basler Electric DGC-2020HD Generator and Bus Protection and Metering

Generator and Bus Protection and Metering

Multifunction protection guards against overvoltage, undervoltage, excessive forward and reverse power,

underfrequency, and overfrequency. Overcurrent, phase imbalance, loss of mains, frequency rate-of

change, phase differential, and neutral differential protection are available as options. Each protection

function has an adjustable pickup and time delay setting. Sixteen inverse time curves, in addition to user

programmable curves, enable the DGC-2020HD to offer overcurrent protection in a variety of

applications. Each protective element can be assigned to protect the generator, bus 1. or bus 2 sensing

inputs with settings groups.

Metered generator and bus parameters include voltage, current, frequency, vector shift, real power

(watts), apparent power (VA), and power factor (PF).

Engine Protection and Metering

Engine protection features include oil pressure and coolant temperature monitoring, overcrank protection,

ECU-specific protection elements, and diagnostic reporting.

Metered engine parameters include oil pressure, coolant temperature, battery voltage, speed, fuel level,

engine load, coolant level (from ECU), ECU-specific parameters, and run-time statistics.

Load Sharing

The DGC-2020HD provides analog outputs to the power system in the form of analog bias signals to the

voltage regulator and speed governor. A pulse width modulated (PWM) speed bias output is also

available. When the generator breaker is closed and load sharing is enabled, the DGC-2020HD shares

the real power load proportionally with other generators in the system. Load sharing can be implemented

on the Analog Load Share Line or through Ethernet communications. Reactive power (kvar) sharing is

accomplished through Ethernet communications.

An overview of DGC-2020HD Digital Genset Controller functions is provided in the following paragraphs.

Basler Electric DGC-2020HD provides integrated engine-genset control

Features and Functions

The DGC-2020HD provides integrated engine-genset control, protection, and metering in a single

package. Microprocessor-based technology allows for exact measurement, setpoint adjustment, and

timing functions. Front panel controls and indicators enable quick and simple

DGC-2020HD operation. A backlit liquid crystal display (LCD) can be viewed under a wide range of

ambient light and temperature conditions. Basler Electric communication software (BESTCOMSPlus®)

allows units to be easily customized for each application. Because of the low sensing burden in the

DGC-2020HD, dedicated potential transformers (PTs) are not required.

Event Recording

A history of system events are logged in nonvolatile memory. The DGC-2020HD retains records for 128

unique types of events. Each record tracks the number of times that an event has occurred and records a

time stamp of the first and last occurrences.

A Sequence of Events (SER) log is also available. This log tracks the internal and external status of the

DGC-2020HD. Events are scanned at five millisecond intervals with 1.023 events stored per record. All

changes of state that occur during each scan are time- and date-stamped. Sequences of Events reports

are available through BESTCOMSPlus. Over 1.000 records can be retained in nonvolatile memory. When

the SER memory becomes full, the oldest record is replaced by the latest one acquired.

Eaton PAC8000 8701-CA-BI Redundant BIM Carrier

8701-CA-BI Redundant BIM Carrier

For details on the installation and operation of the BIM Carrier, refer to the PAC8000 I/O

– PROFIBUS DP BIM Instruction Manual, INM8507.

Features

 accommodates two Bus Interface Modules

 supports PROFIBUS-DP

 provides dual PROFIBUS network connections

 can be used with DIN rail or panel mounting

Standard and Extended Diagnostics

The PROFIBUS BIM supports Standard and Extended Diagnostics. While the Standard

Diagnostics provide standard PROFIBUS status information, the Extended Diagnostics

provide detailed information relating to the status of the BIM, the health of the modules

and the status of I/O channels. Depending on the I/O module type, events such as high

and low alarm, open circuit and line fault are detected.

Extended Diagnostic messages are generated on detection of any anomalies in I/O

modules. Use of the diagnostic capability requires suitable support in the host application.

For hosts unable to use diagnostic data in the control algorithm, it is possible to map the

diagnostic data into the input dataframe.

Eaton 8507-BI-DP supports parameterization from the PROFIBUS master

Parameterization

The 8507-BI-DP supports parameterization from the PROFIBUS master.

The configuration is created in a PROFIBUS configurator using details provided in

a GSD file. This method is fast and enables a configuration to be built based upon

“logical” modules which represent the physical modules. Modules are added one

at a time to the configuration.

The configuration is passed from the PROFIBUS master to the BIM at the start of

communication. If the system is stopped and re-started, or if the node goes through

a cold start cycle, the configuration file is retransmitted to the BIM.

Eaton 8507-BI-DP Bus Interface Module

The 8507-BI-DP Bus Interface Module (BIM) provides the communications

link between the PAC8000 series I/O modules and a PROFIBUS-DP host.

High-speed acquisition of data from the modules and LAN operation speeds

of up to 12 Mbaud allow the host to respond rapidly to changes in process

conditions.

8507-BI-DP Bus Interface Module

For details on the installation and operation of the BIM, refer to the PAC8000 I/O

– PROFIBUS DP BIM Instruction Manual, INM8507.

Features

 support for up to 24 I/O modules

 redundant operation

 extended diagnostics for module and channel status

 PROFIBUS network speeds of up to 12 Mbaud

 non-volatile memory for configuration

 configurable via PROFIBUS host

 HART Pass-through support to monitor/configure HART devices

 Configuration/Reset of IP address

Eaton PAC8000 8507-BI-DP BIM Carrier

8507-BI-DP BIM and 8701-CA-BI Carrier

PROFIBUS DP Bus Interface Module and Carrier

The 8507-BI-DP Bus Interface Module (BIM) provides the communications

link between the PAC8000 series I/O modules and a PROFIBUS-DP host.

High-speed acquisition of data from the modules and LAN operation speeds

of up to 12 Mbaud allow the host to respond rapidly to changes in process

conditions.

The BIM gathers data from the I/O modules and makes it available to the

host upon request. It is a slave tothe PROFIBUS master. As well as cyclic

data exchange, which is required for reading input and writing output data,

the BIM supports PROFIBUS Extended Diagnostics for status information.

The BIM(s) must be used with an 8701-CA-BI Redundant BIM Carrier, described

on page 4.

Redundant BIMs can be used for critical applications. Each BIM in the redundant

pair operates in parallel, continually checking status to enable the backup BIM to

monitor the health of the primary BIM.
