Beckhoff C6017 | Fanless ultra-compact Industrial PC

All-in-one motherboard

The basic concept of the series always provides for an all-in-one motherboard developed and self-manufactured by Beckhoff.

The single-board PCs are characterized by further improved robustness and durability. Modular, functional extensions in the

form of a second board level can be integrated in every motherboard via an internal plug connector.

Advantage at the very core: the Beckhoff Industrial PCs

Beckhoff is a pioneer in PC-based automation technology and has been developing and producing its own PC hardware since

1986. The technology know-how that has grown over the past decades is incorporated today into all Beckhoff Industrial PCs.

Their principle feature is the use of state-of-the-art components and processors of the highest performance class. Combined

with a high in-house production depth, including proprietary motherboard production, long-term component availability,

extremely flexible configuration and customer-specific adaptations, Beckhoff presents itself today as one of the world’s

leading Industrial PC manufacturers.

Beckhoff C6017 Flexible mounting

With the C6017. Beckhoff is extending its range of ultra-compact Industrial PCs by a modular variant with scalable interface

extensions and a 1-second UPS for the backup of persistent data. Due to its extremely compact size, the versatile and flexible

mounting options and the impressive computing power of the Intel Atom® processors, the C6017 fits into virtually any control

cabinet and machine concept. Apart from use for a wide range of automation tasks, the C6017 is mainly suitable for use as an

IoT gateway, or as an edge device. The basis for this is the full integration and compatibility of TwinCAT and EtherCAT.

Flexible mounting

In particular the wide variety of mounting options for the rear panel of the control cabinet or the DIN rail should be

highlighted with this Industrial PC series. The connection level can be freely oriented, i.e. adapted to possibly specified cable

layouts. Due to their maximum flexibility, the PCs fit in any niche in the control cabinet, however small.

Price-optimized

Due to the optimized housing and manufacturing concept, all Industrial PCs from the C60xx series are cost-optimized and are

often less expensive in direct comparison with other series in the Industrial PC product area without restrictions in industrial

compatibility, quality or durability.

KPM KB2 with +24 VDC + power supply

Relays are of dry contact types. In normal operation the “Break Out On” relay is open and it closes

during a break. In case the power is lost or turned off the “Break Out On” relay remains open

(disabled). “Break Out Off” works in the opposite way. There is 2 parallel Break Relays, Break Out

1 and Break out 2 which are working simultaneously.

”Alarm Out Off” is normally closed. It opens in case the built-in self-diagnostics detects a failure.

If power is lost or turned off the “Alarm Out Off” is OPEN. “Alarm Out On” works in the opposite

way. There is 2 parallel Alarm Relays, Alarm Out 1 and Alarm out 2 which are working

simultaneously.

Fiber optic cable is connected to the optics block. It does not matter which one of the two cables

is connected to the receiver inlet (Rx). In a normal application another cable is connected to the

RGB light source. IR light source is used in special cases such as heavy steam environment or in

an application where exceptionally strong light is needed.

ABB KPM KB2 Operating principle

Operating principle

The KPM KB2 operates on a proven, non-contact reflection principle. The light source can be

either RGB LED (red, green, blue) or IR LED (infrared). The optical sensor is placed above or under

the web. Applications include paper or board webs, wires or felts. Thanks to the unique RGB

detection method the color of the product or the felt has no effect on the measurement

reliability. The sensor is neither affected by dirt, steam nor temperatures up to 180 °C (356 °F)

when installed according to ABB Oy, KPM specifications. There are no electronic components

located in the sensor head.

The optical sensor is connected through a fiber optic cable to the RGB/IR light source located in

the display unit. The RGB/IR LEDs emit pulsed red, green, blue, or IR light onto the web surface.

The reflected light is received and transmitted through the fiber optic cable to the detector. All

light components are analyzed fast for a reliable break detection.

A break activates a relay, which can be connected to the logic control of a paper machine. The

reflected light intensities are also available as optional 4 – 20 mA analog outputs.

The self-cleaning sensor head is a 33.7 x 1500 mm (1″ x 59″) stainless steel tube with two holes

serving as eyelets for the fiber optics and outlets for purge air. Continuous airflow through the

stainless steel enclosure keeps positive pressure around the sensor head’s eyes and keeps the

eyelets free of steam, dust or debris. The openings should be located towards the surface being

monitored.

ABB KPM KB2 System components

System components

KPM KB2 fiber optic sheet break detection system contains:

 Sensor head installed above or under the web.

 Fiber optic cable protected with a flexible conduit.

 Display unit housing the light source, detector, and the measurement computer.

KPM KB2 is a solution to high temperature sheet break applications. The light source, detector,

and electronics are isolated from the high temperature environment by a 6 m (20′), 9 m (30′) or

12 m (40′) fiber optic cable. While the sensor head is exposed to high temperatures, the

electronics is mounted in a less hostile environment.

Sensor head “eye” holes are kept clean by purging instrument air through the sensor housing.

Flowing air keeps the eyelet holes clean and prevents dirt or steam from contaminating the

active optic surfaces. Purging air helps also to keep the sensor head temperature lower in high

temperature applications.

KPM KB2 requires clean instrument air at 0.5 – 3.0 bar (7 – 40 psi), the rotameter or pressure

regulator can be used for the easy detection of airflow.

Beckhoff C6015 | Fanless ultra-compact Industrial PC

With a mounting space of just 82 x 82 x 40 mm, the C6015 Industrial PC represents Beckhoff’s most compact entry-level

Industrial PC and price savings of 25% or more (depending on the configuration) place it well below the previously least

expensive x86 PCs. Due to its extremely compact size, the versatile and flexible mounting options and the impressive

computing power of the Intel Atom® processors, it fits into virtually any control cabinet and machine concept. Apart from use

ELAU Servo Drive MC-4

The circular digital SERCOS real-time bus realizes the safe data

exchange with the servo drive MC-4. Due to the use of optical fiber

technology, the data bus is insensitive to electromagnetic

disturbances and cyclically supplies the decentralized servo drive

MC-4 with new set values at a data rate of 4MBaud. All internal

states of the axes can be checked via the real-time bus and

processed in the PacDrive Controller.

In addition to digital and analog inputs and outputs, the PacDrive

Controller has two serial interfaces and one Ethernet interface. A

variety of process visualization and control systems can be

connected to the PacDrive™ system via the integrated OPC

interface. Further peripheral components can be connected via field

bus interface modules. The PacDrive Controller can act as a field

bus master or slave.

The international field bus standards CANopen, PROFIBUS-DP

and DeviceNet are supported. The built-in interfaces enable remote

diagnosis via telephone modem or Internet. Via TCP/IP, PC’s can

communicate with the PacDrive Controller and diagnose the state

of the control directly.

ELAU MC-4 Structure of the PacDrive™ Automation System

Structure of the PacDrive™ Automation System

The PacDrive™ automation system offers a technically and

economically optimal solution for electronic packaging machines.

PacDrive™ consists of an efficient PC-based control, the PacDrive

Controller and the digital MC-4 servo drive which include the mains

connection unit, the end-stage power and the servo regulator of the

individual axes (Fig. 3-2).

The PacDrive Controller is the intelligent head of the system, and is

based on an industrial PC. The PacDrive Controller synchronizes

and coordinates the motion functions of the packaging machine.

Using an IEC 1131-3 soft PLC, it ventures into applications

previously reserved for standard PLCs. The individual PLC or

positioning tasks can be broken down into several parallel tasks,

which are implemented with the EPAS-4 programming environment

according to the IEC 1131-3 standard. Up to 40 servo axes can be

connected to a PacDrive Controller and supplied with positioning

data.

ELAU PacDrive™ Servo drive MC-4

Unplanned machine states, such as stop or emergency off

situations or initialization movements can be realized

synchronously. Dynamic changes of the goods to be packed or the

packaging material in the plant, (like slippage of the products to be

packed or expansion of the packaging material) can be registered

by sensors while the machine is running and eliminated by

modifying the corresponding drive movements. This development

substantially changes and highly simplifies the classical mechanical

machine concept. The structure of the packaging machine can be

broken down into modules that are easy to apply and can be

standardized.
