Bachmann Analog Input/Output Modules Versatile, robust and highly compact

With their metal housing, the analog input and output modules of the M100 series

are highly compact, extremely robust and packed with functions.

The M100 hardware design minimizes failures caused by operating conditions

and guarantees high-efficiency operational performance over the long run.

The cost and performance optimized design of complex automation solutions

involves a large number of different sensor and actuator types.

The standard 10 V and 4 mA to 20 mA interfaces are often not sufficient to

achieve demanding objectives. With the universal talent UIO106. a single

module type covers all common analog and digital signals for inputs and outputs

that can be configured individually for each channel. The extensive versatility of

the module is rounded off by a wide range of additional functions such as

counters, encoders or pulse width modulation.

Temperature measurements represent the largest group of analog interfaces in

industrial automation. All the more reason why technical perfection and

cost-effectiveness are important requirements here. Both requirements are perfectly

covered by the AIO112 modules. Up to 12 Pt100/Pt1000 sensors can be

cost-effectively connected to a single module using a 2 wire connection technology.

If not all channels are required for temperature measurement, up to 6 channels can

be used as current outputs.

Bachmann Communication Modules Space-saving. Versatile. Native.

In the world of PCs, COM ports have long been replaced by USB.

However, in the area of industrial communication between devices,

serial interfaces are still highly relevant. Even an RS-232 connection

permits longer cable distances than USB. The balanced signal transmission

of RS-422 enables robust data exchange over several kilometers – and

this with a cost-effective copper cable. The RS-485 standard is suitable

for both point-to-point connections and bus topologies with up to 32

participants.

A wide range of communication partners are available. Interoperability

is ensured by standards such as IEC 60870-5-101. -103 or DNP3 Serial.

Even proprietary protocols for peripheral devices, such as connecting an

RFID reader, can usually be quickly integrated into an application program.

As well as performance, security is a key driver for the choice of COM-ports

as serial interfaces. The point-to-point connection via physical cable

between clearly identifiable devices offers a high level of security, as the

communication cannot be disrupted by intermediate devices or network

components. Cyberattacks on devices connected via COM ports are harder

to execute and usually easier to detect compared to those in a TCP/IP network.

Bachmann AIM112 Analog Input Module

Modern automation solutions are highly dependent on pre

cise, fast and robust sensors with an analog interface. The

wide range of interfaces required for integration can be

challenging here. This is especially the case when a large

number of different interfaces requires a correspondingly

large variety of types of acquisition modules.

This is a challenge that the AIM112 type modules meet very

easily. Up to 12 analog inputs can be individually config

ured to the desired signal type. The modules provide both

the common standard signals for current loops (4 mA to

20 mA, ±20 mA) and 4 high-impedance voltage measuring

ranges (±10 V to ±10 mV), each adapted to the conversion

range. Alternatively, channel types for all industrially rele

vant thermocouples including integrated characteristic lin

earization are available for measuring very wide tempera

ture ranges.

Precise signal conversion is possible with a 16‑bit resolu

tion and at very high sampling rates thanks to the special

measurement electronics. Widely adjustable filter chains,

precisely tuned to the signal path, ensure a configurable

balance between interference suppression and measure

ment dynamics. A hardware-accelerated high-speed inter

polation that can be activated as required provides contin

uous measurement signals independent of the filter set

tings and even with very short bus cycles.

Bachmann AIO104/I Analog Input/Output Module

Plants extended over large distances, interference fields

caused by power engineering systems, difficult grounding

conditions or aggressive substances close to the measure

ment sensors the challenges in analog measurement tech

nology for industrial applications can be manifold.

Floating measurement circuits with differential circuits

must be planned in order to exclude interference from

the measurement chain as much as possible. To prevent

interference and damage from being transmitted from one

sensor circuit to all the others, the measuring and control

circuits are galvanically isolated from each other.

For this purpose, the AIO104/I module type offers the ben

efits of an extremely versatile multi-signal analog input/

output module combined with channel-wise galvanic isola

tion. Each of the 4 primary channels can be operated indi

vidually either as an analog input or output. The spectrum

of the inputs ranges from current loops (4 mA to 20 mA,

±20 mA) to 4 high-impedance voltage measurement ranges

(±10 V to ±10 mV), Pt100/Pt1000 temperature measure

ment in 2-wire, 3-wire, and 4-wire connection technology as

well as thermocouples, and through to freely configurable

resistance measurement. The integrated measuring range

and measured value monitoring enable both sensor circuit

faults as well as process alarms to be implemented easily.

Current loops can also be driven or 0 V to 10 V, ±10 V

voltage signals can be output in 14 bits. Besides the 4 freely

configurable primary channels, up to 4 additional I/O chan

nels with restricted signal types are available.
